The only thing that really seems to help was Ultrasound
I fell on my bike under a UPS truck (It wasn't moving yet) because I couldn't get my feet out of my clips and, consequently fell on my shoulder and tore my rotator cuff.
The pain was almost intolerable, not to mention the inability to dress myself and do simple everyday tasks--like driving, working on computer, etc.
I saw my chiropractor, received multiple massages, participated in physical therapy and alternated ice/heat packs. I knew from my masseuse that when you have an injury like this, it is very involved.
There are several different muscles that support the rotator cuff and when they become inflamed, sometimes scar tissue is formed as your body starts to heal.

My Orthopedic Doctor Was Impressed
In a fall I tore my right rotator cuff, both shoulders had been feeling stiff and sore. Began anti-inflammatory drug and PT. Began feeling a little better then left shoulder "froze" and began another round of drug and PT for both shoulders. Shoulder Inferno Wrap Eased the Pain
I recently had surgery on my left shoulder on Jan 4th of this year to shave down the bone to leave enough space for my shoulder joint to work.
It seemed to be healing slowly, until I probably reinjured it trying to cut down a small tree. I went back to my Orthopedic Surgeon for my follow up and had to have a cordizone shot in June so I could be painfree while on a long awaited vacation.
The shot lasted until September and had another shot October 26 with a warning from the Dr that if I couldn't get any better through therapy by Jan 6 2011 I would have to have the full surgery with my tendions and muscles sewn up to the top of my Rotator Cuff. I told him I don't want to go through the pain again, since I can't take pain medication due to my daily med I have to take for PTSD and can't take them both at the same time.

Rotator Cuff injuries are very common injuries and they can persist for years unless treatment is properly addressed. Anyone can experience a rotator cuff tear, not just professional baseball and football athletes. Shoulder injuries are quite common, often the result of a quick blow to the shoulder joint or through years of common movements such as swinging a tennis racquet or golf club. Regardless of how the injury happens, a shoulder injury is painful and the joint can feel very unstable. Rotator cuff injuries can persist for years and can impede your ability to perform many common tasks that you probably took for granted before the injury. Recovery can take a long time but proper healing is essential to regain strength and get you back to the activities you enjoy.
 The rotator cuff is used to describe four muscle groups in the shoulder area. This muscle group helps to stabilize the joint in the shoulder when the upper arm moves. Once one or more of the rotator cuff muscles are injured it becomes very difficult to recover 100%. It is almost impossible to keep from re-straining the muscles because even in a sling our shoulder can still move. It's just not possible to stop everything and rest the injury properly. What ends up happening is we continually reinjure the shoulder through our daily activities further setting back our recovery.
It is almost impossible to keep from re-straining your injured shoulder because even when the pain is gone you still are not fully healed. But, when the pain disappears, that's when we start using our shoulder normally again even though it isn't fully healed. It's just not possible to stop everything and rest the injury properly. Everyone has demands that make them keep going and when we are active we prevent the shoulder from healing completely. We continually reinjure the area through our daily activities which can often lead to frozen shoulder or arthritis of the shoulder later in life.
Shoulder Re-injury Must be Avoided at All Costs
Constant re-injury (you know when it's happening, you can feel the pain) needs to be avoided at all costs. Obviously, it delays the healing process, but what's worse is that every re-injury and additional healing cycle increases the amount of scar tissue that builds up in the area of your original shoulder injury (the supraspinatus muscle for instance). Scar tissue is hard, inflexible, and tough to get rid of. The more scar tissue that develops, the more you lose the range of motion in your shoulder. The more scar tissue that develops, the more likely you will wind up with chronic pain or arthritis (permanently injured). Scar tissue means that your shoulder will not perform as well as it once did and it makes it much more prone to injury again later on.
If you have inflammation in your shoulder or in the muscles surrounding the shoulder joint, it's very important to heal it quickly and completely. You must avoid the build up of scar tissue. Dear MendMeShop, I DID QUITE A JOB ON MY RIGHT SHOULDER AT THE GYM ABOUT 6 WKS. AGO TO THE POINT THAT I CONSIDERED A POSSIBLE TORN CUFF. TURNS OUT IT IS JUST A STRAIN.
